Despite being a scarecrow, Gumbas is afraid of birds; and yes, this includes crows. He also fears fire, as the straw he’s made of is flammable. He’s also afraid of water, since straw is known to spontaneously combust when wet. When not prayed upon by his fears, he has a quick wit and delightfully dry humor.
